Dash into Robotics is an exciting opportunity for students to get their first sample of learning with a real robot! Earth Ed comes to you with a class set of Dash robots and iPads for an hour of engaging play based learning for students (and teachers).
Starting with an introduction to what robots are and where people use robots, students quickly move into some hands on activities in partners. They are encouraged to experiment and learn about the abilities of their robot through play. After all students are familiar with their robot and the remote controls on the iPad they come back together for a class game of “Robot Simon Says”. This gives students the opportunity to develop their new found skills and refine their learning.
Students are then shown some of the impressive repetitive skills of the Dash robots on a challenge mat and all students have the opportunity to try to best Dash in this driving challenge. This is an opportunity for students to encourage each other whilst also developing their fine motor and spatial
skills.
As a wrap up some students have the opportunity to share what they have learned with the class. This program is a fantastic way to give your students a taste of coding and robotics without having to invest in expensive equipment and to trial different resources available.
Follow up materials are available to assist teachers who are learning about teaching robotics and coding in the classroom.

Key Learning Outcomes:

Students:

  •  understand that a robot can repeat procedures precisely and endlessly when
    programmed to do so
  •  recognise that humans cannot demonstrate the same level of accuracy of control
  • demonstrate that they can manually ‘control’ a robot.
