This hands-on program engages students in the world of seismic engineering by exploring earthquakes as a natural disaster. Students set the scene by exploring the theory of plate tectonics to continental movement and patterns of geological activity.
The day is focused around two engineering challenges, earthquake-proof buildings and rescue robots. In each challenge, students develop their science inquiry skills and 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity, problem solving and communication.
