Rock Cycles

Year 3 – 4

Step 1 of 4

Students explore the use of rocks and their minerals in everyday materials.

They investigate the properties of rocks to group them based on observable features before grouping them based on the three main rock types, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.

In this program students will:

  • Recognise how rocks and their minerals are used in modern living.
  • Make connections between observable properties of rocks and their use.
  • Identify how rocks can be grouped based on the way they are formed.

Incursion programs are only available to schools classed as rural or metro disadvantaged by the Department of Education.
